Daniel sobbed against my forehead.
“He’s alive,” the doctor said. “Small, but fighting.”
I closed my eyes, hearing my mother’s whisper again.
Tell them it was an accident.
When a detective entered my recovery room, I opened my eyes and answered calmly.
“No,” I said. “It was attempted murder—and I can prove why.”
